Last Friday Emily and I went adventuring from Puffin HQ all the way over Jubilee Bridge and off to Waterloo station for a very important event. Choo choo!
The wonderful children's classic The Railway Children is being brought to life on stage and as Puffin publish it, we were invited to the arrival of the beautiful 60-tonne steam locomotive, and the Old Gentleman’s Saloon, which will star in the production.
Some very clever person had the imagination to turn the now disused Eurostar terminal at Waterloo into a theatre, and we were lucky enough to see it before it’s finished, to see how this gigantic space and abandoned platform is being magically transformed.
We got to sit in the Old Gentleman’s Carriage, which featured in the much-loved film starring Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins but unfortunately we weren’t allowed to drive the train, we don’t have a licence for that.
The Railway Children starts on the 4th July and you can win a pair of top price tickets in this month’s competition. And if you haven’t read the book or seen the film then what are you waiting for? This is one railway journey you could never get bored on.
